East Sussex is a popular county for our advanced driving courses. It has a diverse network of both rural and urban roads, and also has relatively quick access to motorways, with the M23 to the west and the M20 to the east, and of course the M25 to the north. During our advanced driving courses, we try and cover as wide a range of roads as possible.

The purpose of this is to ensure a driver is not only assessed in a range of driving situations, but a varying number of roads also provides a great opportunity for the very best driver training, where we can introduce various techniques in different situations and on different roads.

Remember – Each driving course is totally bespoke to your own specific needs and requirements. This applies to both our business and private client courses.

If you are specifically looking at a bespoke course, such as motorway training or developing confidence in urban traffic with reversing and manoeuvres, then the routes will change accordingly. But for a standard advanced driving course, we try and cover a wide range of roads. Each course is bespoke to the individual, we never just offer an off the peg driving course.

We have already offered driver training to a range of business and private clients in Hastings, Eastbourne, Uckfield and Crowborough. We do cover all of East Sussex (and West Sussex), and with a network of over 240 tutors, we have full UK coverage.

Road Safety Risks and Information – East Sussex

The A22 between Eastbourne and East Grinstead is a high-speed and hazardous route, and the intersection to the A272 around Maresfield has numerous severe crash sites; this is also the case near Holmes Hill and Golden Cross, where the rural roads intersect fast-traffic areas. The A27 between Brighton and Eastbourne is also a collision hotspot, especially when meeting the minor rural and coastal roads. Further inland, the A26 runs from Lewes through Royal Tunbridge Wells to join the M20 and M2. The section of road between Herons Ghyll and Crowborough is particularly risky, with more than its fair share of severe accidents for such a small area. Speed is ultimately a significant factor in most accidents, so it is vital to understand and respect the speed limit for fast dual carriageways, roads and motorways. The meeting of minor rural lanes to fast A roads that cause the most significant issues; this can be from lack of observations or indications where vision is partially obstructed. The stretch of road between Flimwell and the roundabout at Lamberhurst Down is a challenging route with many severe and, sadly, often fatal accidents, most A roads will have an average 50 MPH speed limit unless driving through built-up areas, but it is easy to speed when A roads cross the open countryside.

Rural and coastal roads across East Sussex are all affected by collision sites, but some are far worse than others; one of the highest risk areas is the Wartling Road from the A27 at Pevensey through to the A271.

Eastbourne, Bexhill and Hastings are the larger towns in East Sussex, and the roads surrounding the retail centres all have numerous collision sites, and many could have been avoided with better observations and indications; being great holiday destinations, many drivers involved in such accidents may have been tourists, and this is why it is essential that if you intend to travel to unfamiliar areas that you have the skills to understand all aspects of driving whatever road you are travelling.

These are only a very broad outline of collision sites in the county. If you have any specific roads you travel on in the area and are keen to discover what parts are at higher risk of collisions, please contact us. We offer a free-of-charge service to anyone who is interested.
