Mirrors after entering a new road

When doing my minibus training I have been told to do a mirror check just after entering every new road after a junction or roundabout which I can understand, before accelerating.

But whilst in the car I have found a couple of times where it is important to observe well ahead just before doing the mirror check.

Whilst I know the importance of using the mirrors I do find that their use is distacting me a little from forward observation.

Check forward and then check mirrors - between checking the two mirrors the eyes go across the screen to recheck the forward vision

You've looked well down the road as you turn in haven't you? Agree also with what Rog says.
