Happens here too, I saw someone the other day pull into a petrol station with a portable TV on his dash.

Coaches are allowed to have video entertainment equipment installed and there is a big but, it must by law be situated so that the driver cannot see it.

I thought it was also legal for cars to be fitted with a TV, but it had to in a position where it could not be viewed by the driver.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

Almost right. If it is placed such that the driver can see the screen then there must be a lock such that it cannot be used as a TV whilst the vehicle is in motion. The muppets who think they know better will, of course, disable that lock.

I've seen this in a Range Rover, it was odd watching BBC News whilst parked in a disused service station. The new RR has a "split" screen where the driver sees the Sat Nav screen on the move, but the passenger can see the TV/Video output.

Thanks for that clarification, Mark.

We already have enough rules that I'd be minded to circumvent, but that isn't one of them. TV in a car wouldn't be of interest to me to begin with.

What does concern me about this subject area is the prospect of satellite navigation systems getting banned; or at least us having to use voice instructions only, and not have the map screen available for periodic reference.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

An iCar, that'll be the Mac Mini :D

But a good point about iPhones, I have used mine with the CoPilot UK app for satellite navigation strangely enough, driving a coach on tour. Perhaps it is illegal to use an iPhone where you can see it as it is technically a piece of video equipment being a widescreen iPod, I wonder where we legally stand using them in cars.
