Hi
I'm thinking of organising a different kind of ADUK day next year.
1. I'd invite my local IAM group as well
2. It would be combined with some sort of activity, e.g. a treasure hunt, visit to some motoring event or venue, or some such.

If you could indicate your interest by choosing a poll option, that would be great.

Otherwise, comments are welcome.

Thanks!

Hi Mark....

I'd be more for 'just driving' than going to some museum....I'm not old enough for museums yet ;-)

Quite so. You might find CK in one of 'em. :P

They might also be making space for me too. :(

Best wishes all,
Dave.

Watch it, young Dave.

I have to say that I prefer purely driving days.

Seems like a nice idea.

I think you need to think carefully about the purpose of the day; if you are including something other than driving, what are you trying to achieve?

Some people enjoy activities other than driving ;) I know it's hard to understand/believe

My own preference would be for a driving only day. Surely that's the point?

Nick's North Wilts day earlier this year seemed about a 50/50 split between AD-UK and his RoSPA group - what did they think about it?

My preference would be for a driving-focussed day, but I do quite enjoy a treasure hunt.

With one exception, they enjoyed themselves. It was a risk. Some of the AD-UK members drive more enthusiastically than our RoADAR members, and it was a ticklish job devising the matrix. It's important to show that there is scope, without causing undue anxiety or taking people too far out of their comfort zone.

On the other hand, I'm not sure what the point of a purely social day would be. We might all enjoy chatting at the beginning or end of the day, but what driving-related purpose would be served?

As with most on here, I prefer to get some driving in on these days, in new or at least rotating company, and try and learn something.

I've voted for driving rather than activities but, in truth, it's rather academic since I'm unlikely to have enough free time to attend much in the way events next year.

If anyone is causing undue anxiety then they probably need to examine the spectrum of their displayed driving. I try only to cause anxiety when it's due.

You succeeded. ;)

Can you say some more about the exception? What was the RoADAR member expecting, and in what ways were those expectations not met?

I think the exception was the one who drove with me. I don't remember causing him any anxiety. I think he was quite happy with his own driving, and wasn't interested in too much else. His driving was fine, although not particularly smooth or progressive, IIRC.

And by not progressive, I mean that I think he could have got on with it a bit more and remained perfectly legal and safe.
